Welcome to author McKenzie Bodkin's discussion space for THE WATER MAGE'S DAUGHTER: A NOVEL OF LOVE, MAGIC AND WAR IN VERSE. Reading the book is just the beginning. Inside its three-part symphonic structure are hidden verse hunts and mathematical wonders. Of course, the poem comes to life best when read aloud to friends or someone you love.

"Come now, Father, no argument.
Yes, body's poor and yours is spent!
That's certain. Yet, feed it we must.
Without it, thought's gold is but rust."
So says Gudrunlod to Harcto, her fallen water mage father, on the dunes above Peloon. At this point in the tale, she is unaware that she is a heresy.
